A scientific experiment on catching jellyfish is being launched in the Sea of Azov

The All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography is going to catch them. The cost of the state contract is 2.6 million rubles, and it includes 20 trawls with fixed seines from July to November. Due to the increase in the salinity of the Sea of Azov (from 9% to 15% in 10 years), jellyfish have bred up to a million tons in it.

Part of the catch is going to be used for the production of gelatin and collagen. According to forecasts, the industrial catch of jellyfish in the Sea of Azov will allow the production of up to 260 thousand tons of collagen for medicine and cosmetology.
